“I had an extremely distressing experience here. Despite informing the chiropractor of my preexisting spinal injuries and explicitly stating that I was not comfortable having my neck manipulated, my concerns were disregarded. He proceeded with a neck manipulation anyway. After the first attempt did not produce the intended result, he attempted it again. I woke up the following morning with debilitating pain extending from my shoulder into my neck, to the point that my shoulder was practically pulled up to my ear. What followed was multiple trips to the ER and urgent care, steroid treatment, injections, and numerous physical therapy visits. I was subsequently told I had sustained whiplash and further cervical disc injury. It has now been six months, and I continue to experience daily cervical spine pain that I was not experiencing before this appointment. The impact on my quality of life has been significant. What concerns me most is that I communicated my medical history and clearly expressed my boundaries before treatment, yet I did not feel heard or that my concerns were respected. Patients should feel safe asking questions, expressing discomfort, and declining procedures without those boundaries being disregarded. This experience has had lasting consequences for me. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this practice, particularly anyone with a history of spinal injuries, to carefully consider their options before proceeding with treatment.”
