Halloween at a Glance

Here's the short version, in date order. Details for everything are further down.

  • Sat, Oct 17: Clay County Boo Bash (free, Fairgrounds, daytime) · Pergamum Haunt opens its remaining Saturdays (Orange Park, 12+ is the sweet spot)
  • Fri, Oct 23: Green Cove Springs Police Department Trunk or Treat (free)
  • Thu, Oct 29: Ghosts of Green Cove's Past ($25, Green Cove Springs)
  • Fri, Oct 30: The big one. Tales from the Clink, The Grove's Trunk or Treat, Black Creek Methodist Trunk or Treat, the Fleming Island Library party and Casper at the Fairgrounds all land on the same day.
  • Sat, Oct 31: Orange Park Mall Candy Crawl (midday), Moosehaven Trick or Treat and Boo on the Boulevard in Keystone Heights (evening)
  • All month: Amazing Grace Family Farms Pumpkin Festival (weekends) and the Black Creek Methodist Pumpkin Patch (daily)

Quick Picks by Who's Going

  • Little ones: Boo Bash, Fleming Island Library (ages 5-11), the Candy Crawl, Moosehaven, any of the trunk-or-treats
  • Big kids and tweens: Tales from the Clink (recommended 8+), Amazing Grace's crop maze, GCSPD Trunk or Treat
  • Teens who want an actual scare: Pergamum's haunted trail (the site says 12+ handle it better)
  • Grown-ups: Ghosts of Green Cove's Past and the Headless Bangers Costume Ball if you're up for the drive to St. Augustine

Selected

πŸ‘» Haunted + Spooky Experiences

Clay County's spooky options range from "a little creepy, bring Grandma" to "closed-toe shoes strongly recommended." Here they are, roughly from gentlest to scariest.

⛓️ Tales from the Clink

Friday, Oct 30 · 5-8 PM · Clay County Historic Triangle, 915 Walnut St., Green Cove Springs

One night only: $1 for youth and $3 for adults, cash only. For $3, you can spend Friday night in an 1894 jail watching Clay County true-crime stories come back to life. Frankly, we've spent more money on significantly worse decisions.

Ridgeview High drama students act out true-crime stories pulled from the county's own archives, with "characters" stationed in the 1894 jail, the 1890 courthouse, the Clay County History Museum, and the railroad depot. Museum access is included.

The courthouse also hosts a murder trial, "The Trial of the Sweetheart Slayer," at 5:45 and 6:45 PM on the second floor. It's standing room only, so get there early. This is the sixth year.

It's billed as "slightly spooky family fun" and recommended for adults and children 8 and up, at a parent's discretion. Clay Parks & Rec, the County Library, and the VIA will host activities, and pizza, drinks, and sweets will be for sale. Parking is free in open lots and along the streets around the Historic Triangle. Questions: (904) 371-0027.

πŸ•―οΈ Ghosts of Green Cove's Past

Thursday, Oct 29 · 6-8 PM · Village Improvement Association, 17 Palmetto Ave., Green Cove Springs

The Green Cove Springs Preservation Society hosts this guided look at local people, places, and legends drawn from local records, family histories, and landmarks. Tickets are $25 per person. Space is limited, so register ahead, and double-check the event time when you do.

🌲 Pergamum Haunt & Escape Room

Saturdays, Oct 17, 24 and 31 · 7-11 PM · 2909 Barbara Ln., Orange Park, FL 32065

A haunted trail and an escape room on the same property, booked online by timed appointment. The haunted trail is $10 general admission plus a $0.25 service fee. The trail runs about 15 minutes plus a five-minute final scene; the escape room takes about 40 to 55 minutes.

The site's own words on age: "Intense, parental discretion, not suitable for young children; ages 12+ seem to handle it better." If your group is on the fence, the 7-8 PM slot is less dark and a little less scary.

The useful stuff: it runs in the rain (heavy rain may delay things), closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended, and there are no bathrooms on site, so plan accordingly. The trail isn't fully accessible; the escape room is mostly accessible. No flash photography, weapons, drugs, or alcohol. The haunt says it supports families, especially single mothers in crisis.

A ticket is good for one entry on any 2026 operating day, no reservation needed, but it's final sale. Gates close an hour before closing time.

No outside food or drinks, no pets, no smoking or vaping, and it's weather-dependent.

πŸ’€ Clay County Homes That Understood the Assignment

Some of the best Halloween in this county isn't on any calendar. It's the house down the street with the 12-foot skeleton and the fog machine and a homeowner who clearly started in August.

Got a house like that on your street, or are you that house? Send it our way. We’ll keep adding Clay County displays throughout October.

πŸš— Worth the Drive

Clay has plenty going on, but a few things just over the line are worth the gas.

⚾ Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Fall Festival

Friday, Oct 16 · 6-9 PM · VyStar Ballpark, Jacksonville

One of the best deals on this whole list: $1 per person, with free parking in Lot P. It's the first year for this one.

Kids trick-or-treat along the concourse, and the team is turning its real locker room into a haunted clubhouse. There are vendor tables with treats, mascot visits and Halloween classics on the big videoboard. Concessions and the team store are open. It's stroller and wheelchair accessible. The field itself isn't open, and outside food and drinks aren't allowed.

🍹 Grown-Up Worth the Drive: Headless Bangers Costume Ball

Adults only, 18+. This is the 10th year of an indoor, climate-controlled costume party with two live bands: BedRock (an '80s and '90s hair-band tribute) and The Northern Exposure Band. The costume contest pays out $1,200 in cash ($500, $300 and $200, plus $200 for best couple or group), so this is the year to stop phoning it in with cat ears. There are also desserts, candy, vendors, a spiritual reader, scary animatronics and free raffles. Free parking.

Tickets: $40 cash in person at any BedRock or Northern Exposure show, $45 online ($48.48 with fees) until 6 PM the day of, or $55 cash at the door if it hasn't sold out, and the organizer expects it to. The bar is self-pay and doesn't take cash, so bring a card.

πŸ“£ Tell Us What We Missed

Know something we missed? Tell us. This guide is going to keep growing.

We're looking for:

  • Halloween events and parties
  • Trunk-or-treats open to the public
  • Decorated homes and neighborhood displays
  • Pumpkin patches and fall activities
  • Anything good we didn't catch

Organizing a Halloween event we missed? Send it our way and we’ll take a look. Homeowners and neighbors, send us a photo and the neighborhood or street name. We won't publish an exact address unless the homeowner says it's OK.

Plans change, especially with Florida weather, so check with organizers before you head out. See you out there.
