About

This conservation area’s importance is magnified by its closeness to the St. Johns River and the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Its riverine bottomland hardwoods, pine flatwoods and sandhill communities protect approximately seven miles of the St. Johns River, which borders the east side of the property. In addition, the property provides storage of flood waters and preserves water and natural resources in the Lower St. Johns River Basin.

What people say

5 out of 5 stars

“Plenty of sidewalk space, clean, easy to follow path, quiet, great for bird watchers, not overwhelmed with too many hikers, riders, equestrians, or enthusiasts to ruin the lost in nature allure”

“The shoreline of the preserve doesn't look like much from the Shands Bridge but it is totally beautiful experienced from a kayak or canoe! Also, there are several shallow places that allowed us to get out of our boats and stand up for nice break as well as pic-nic area with a table. The hiking and off road bicycling opportunities here are numerous as well. Lots of long routes can created using adjacent land holdings. Watch out for ticks and yellow flies during the warmer months!”
